Kristen is a Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and focuses on comparative law, including comparative animal law. She directs the new Animal Law Program at HLS as well as the Islamic Legal Studies Program. Her PhD is from Harvard University and her JD is from The University of Texas, and prior to HLS she held faculty positions at Northwestern University and the University of Washington. Her publications include Islamic Law in Action (Oxford University Press, 2011) and “Contextualizing Constitutional Islam,” published in 2015 in the International Journal of Constitutional Law. Her recent work focuses on the development of the animal rights movement in Egypt and the Muslim World.
