Heron Santana Gordilho is a scholar of both animal and environmental law, having published a number of books and articles on both subjects. He earned an SJD at the Federal University of Pernambuco and a post doc at Pace University Law School. He is an environmental public prosecutor in Brazil and coordinator of the Master’s and PhD programs at Universidade Federal da Bahia. He is also the regional coordinator of the Brazil-American Institute for Environmental Law (BAILE) at Pace University Law School (EUA) and professor in the master’s degree in Animal Law & Society at Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona (SPAIN). Dr. Gordilho is the founder and first president of the Abolitionist Institute for Animals (IAA). Nowadays he is the Brazilian Animal Rights Review (RBDA) editor (the first animal law review in Latin America) and founder and president of the Latin American Animal Law Association (ALDA). Additionally, he created the Habeas Corpus on behalf of chimpanzee theory.
