The Honorable Elena Liberatori is a lawyer specialized in Administrative Law, graduated from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina. She taught Administrative Law and Human Rights and Guarantees, from 1974 to 1992 at the Law School of UBA. Since 2000, she is a Judge in Administrative Litigation in the City of Buenos Aires.
She received an award from the Argentine Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Trans (FALGTB) for “her support, contribution and committed action with a more just and egalitarian country.”
In 2011, she issued the first court ruling ordering the urbanization of a vulnerate neighborhood in the City of Bs.As, having led to the making of a documentary “Capital Bricks” (Director Gustavo Laskier, February 2019) that narrates the story from its beginnings to the currently urbanized neighborhood. She participated playing her own role as a judge in the documentary “Ley Pareja” by Fernando Zuber, awarded as the best Argentine short film in Libercine, Bs. As. 2013.In 2013, the Argentine Association of Filmmakers and Students of Cinematography and Television included her in a documentary photographic exhibition of 25 portraits of outstanding women by virtue of gender equality and public recognition against all types of discrimination, carried out in the Honorable Congress of the Argentinian Nation.In 2015, She is the first judge in the country and one of the first in the world to recognize an animal’s “non-human” personality –Case “Sandra”.In 2019, invited by Pope Francis as Observer of the “Pan-American Meeting of Judges for Social Rights and Franciscan Doctrine,” she signed the Declaration of Rome. In 2020, she receives a Diploma of Honor from the Senate of the Argentine Nation in recognition of the ecofeminist commitment in the defense of harmony with Nature, within the framework of the tribute to the figure and legacy of Berta Cáceres. In 2020, she receives the “Shining World Leadership Award for Justice” by the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association”. In 2021, she is appointed Honorary Academic Director of the Animal Law Institute of the San Martín Lawyers Association – Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since May 2021, she has been a member of the Argentine Chapter of the Pan American Committee of Judges for Social Rights and Franciscan Doctrine.
